Guided tutorial: How to Keep Your Wood Wick Lit 🕯️
Trim before every burn
Before lighting, trim the wood wick to about ⅛ inch. Remove any charred or blackened wood from the previous burn.
Keep the wick clean
If there’s a lot of soot or carbon buildup, gently brush or pinch away the excess. A clean wick gives the flame a better chance to stay lit.
Give it enough time
When lighting, hold the flame to the wick for 10–15 seconds, moving it gently across the wood until the wick catches.
Let the wax melt completely
For the first burn, allow the melt pool to reach close to the edges of the container. This helps prevent tunneling and gives the wick a consistent wax supply.
If the flame goes out… don’t panic!
Extinguish the candle, let it cool completely, then trim away excess carbon and try again. If there is too much melted wax around the wick, carefully remove a small amount of wax once the candle is cool.
Keep that flame cozy—not huge 🔥
A wood wick should have a gentle, steady flame. If it gets too tall or smoky, extinguish it, let it cool, and trim the wick before relighting.
